Homeschooling FAQ’s
“What is homeschooling?” When a family takes on the responsibility of educating their child(ren).
“Is it legal?” Yes it is and has always been.
“What about socialisation?” The big question meant in the kindest way generally. Come back for the answer to this one (I have many, but can’t put them into words right now!)
“Do you have to be trained or a teacher?” No you don’t but you need to be registered with the Department of Education in Western Australia.
“Are you given a curriculum?” No you aren’t but you are expected to cover the learning areas in the curriculum framework.
“What! No school today?” This question is asked almost everytime we went to the local shops, library or any other place we went and it gets VERY tiring after a few years of it. Homeschooling is just not well known and so it doesn’t leap to people’s minds as a reason why you could possibly be out with school aged children during public school hours. Perhaps education for the public about homeschooling is something to be considered.
